Philosophy on Gifted Learners
I decided to start this company because I love teaching. The last 6 years of my career have been in Curriculum and Instruction. Reflecting on my day-to-day duties, I realized my favorite and best days were days I spent training teachers. I have decided to combine my love of teaching teachers with my passion for gifted and talented students. I sat in on many meetings where the GT kids were overlooked because "they'll be alright." I want Parker Educational Resources and Mentoring to be a champion and advocate for our gifted learners and the teachers who teach them.
I have 28 years of experience in education and hold a K-12 GT supplement for Texas. Of those years, fifteen have been working with and for Gifted and Talented students. I believe there are too many myths surrounding gifted students and what they need. GT is not a part-time need. If a student is GT, then they are always GT. Therefore, teachers need a clear understanding of the nature and needs of gifted students and how to provide them with differentiated services to promote their learning and growth. Educators need to truly understand the gifted learner to do this. Giving educators that understanding makes lasting permanent change to their daily instruction.
